This map features the Bitterroot River in Montana from Hannon to Missoula plus includes Rock Creek and the Lower Clark River from Missoula north to St. Regis. It contains all public fishing access areas, picnic grounds, public restrooms, campgrounds, boat put in locations, parking areas, Forest Service Public Land and BLM Public Land. Also included are insect hatch chart and float charts.
The upper portion of the Bitterroot River consist of a nice mix of woodland and grassy banks and is easy to wade. Dry flies are the preferred meal of choice. Further downstream, as the Bitterroot heads toward Missoula, the current slows and log strewn corners and grassy undercuts harbor more and larger rainbow and brown trout.
The upper half of Rock Creek is characterized by a rapid current with clear, deep pools. Boulders can be found in and along the water. Access is not a challenge. Rock Creek Road runs parallel to the river and provides able access to anglers via designated Fishing Access Sites and campground. Rock Creek Road is a pothole-ridden dirt road that narrows to a single lane in the upper reach of the river.
