Colorado’s Roaring Fork & Frying Pan Rivers Fly Fishing Guide

Colorado’s Roaring Fork & Frying Pan Rivers Fly Fishing Guide
By Bill Perry & Daniel Bryant

Two remarkable rivers. Learn the water before your first cast.

From the mountain headwaters near Independence Pass to the broad Roaring Fork at Glenwood Springs, and from the upper Fryingpan to its celebrated tailwater below Ruedi Reservoir, these waters reward anglers who understand them.

This practical guide helps you discover where to fish, how to read the water, and how to adjust your approach as seasons, flows, and hatches change. Follow the rivers through Aspen, Basalt, Carbondale, and Glenwood Springs, with additional coverage of the Crystal River, tributaries, reservoirs, and high-country lakes.

Inside, you’ll find:

• Public-access guidance from the headwaters to the confluences

• Seasonal fishing strategies for both rivers

• Insects, hatches, proven flies, and presentations

• Wade-fishing insights and guidance on floating the Roaring Fork

• Equipment, leaders, rigging, and fish identification

• Local fly shops, guides, lodging, and dining

Connect the book to the landscape. A QR code links to the optional Colorado River Watershed Fishing Mobile Map, available separately, to help you locate mapped access areas and understand the surrounding waters.

Whether you’re planning your first trip or returning to a favorite stretch, these 13 chapters give you practical knowledge to bring to the river.

Know the water. Choose your approach. Fish with confidence.
